Claudia Rankine (b. 1963), Usonian author, poet & playwright. In her work, she depicts daily life tinged with racism towards African-Americans, made up of slips of the tongue, avoidance, & resentment towards affirmative action. The indeterminacy of the “you” that she uses in her poems puts the reader — whether White, Latino, Mixed-race or Black — in empathy with the vexations of racism & the weight of their accumulations (photo: 2024).
